This 7-night guided walking tour on the last 100km of the Via Francigena, takes walkers to one of the most popular stretches of the whole Via Francigena, from Viterbo to Rome. This fully guided tour will see you arrive in Rome on Holy Thursday and you will also have Good Friday to spend in the city, enjoying the Easter celebrations.
By walking the last 100km of the Via Francigena, the Camino to Rome, you can get your ‘Testimonium’ of pilgrimage to the ever-fascinating Eternal City. From medieval Viterbo, Francigena pilgrims will follow Roman roads, paths, forest trails and dirt tracks across the scenic, hilly and vibrant green Lazio countryside.
Explore pretty towns and villages en-route with their street markets and lively buzz; staying in countryside hotels and agriturismos. Before starting your walk on the Camino to Rome, you should take some time to explore Viterbo’s charming old town with its Papal palace (Palazzo dei Papi), cathedral, quaint Medieval quarter and many churches, squares. Stroll through any of the intriguing little lanes to enjoy a fresh Italian coffee.
The last day on the trail (Holy Thursday) will see you arriving in the Vatican along the famous ‘Via Triumphale’, with sweeping views of Rome from Monte Mario, one of the city’s highest hills. On Good Friday you will have a 3 hour walking tour of the city and in the evening you will have to chance to join the Via Crucis Easter celebration.
