Appian Way – Via Appia

via Appia

The Appian Way or Via Appia was Europe’s first ‘highway’ and one of the most important Roman roads. Built in 312 BC, the Via Appia connected Rome to Brindisi, Apulia, in southeast Italy. It was from here that Roman ships sailed to Greece and Egypt.
